    Question BRB habitat problems

    Hi folks.

I have a 18 month old BRB and I have just put him into a 90x60x50 Herptek viv.

I have a few questions if you would be so kind..

I'm using a ceramic and pulse prop stat and a under tank heat mat and mat stat. I have coconut and cypress mulch substrate and a water dish in both ends of the viv.

I can reach the desired temperatures of 88 hot spot, and ambient of 79...

    here's the problem....

I cant get the temps to drop to 73 on a night, even without the heat mat the ambient temp is still 75, and I have been told I must keep the ceramic (hotspot) on all night.....

I'm also struggling to keep the humidity up at 75%, I'm in the UK and the ambient temp in the room is circa 70.

    Any help with this appreciated...

    Re: BRB habitat problems

I keep my brb's right in the low 80's. Highest it goes is 85, so generally it's hanging out around 82-83. I use cypress mulch, it keeps the humidity right around 65-70%. I do not let it drop at night.

Ceramic heaters will suck up the humidity. I'd ditch it.

I keep both of mine in a tub, with an inch or more of cypress mulch that they can burrow down in. We use an on/off thermostat (Ranco) and have it set for 85 F with the 3" flexwatt running along bottom back part of the enclosure for a gradient.

Pictures of your set up will help us...

    Hi,

Couldn't you get the habistats (or whichever brand your using) with the night time drop feature?

I use these for the night time drops during breeding season for my royals and they work really well. They work via an extra power cord triggered from a timer and the amount of drop is controlled via a completely unmarked rotary knob on the bottom.

first off, your enclosure sounds sweet!

like mentioned before I would loose the ceramic heat. My rainbow likes it alot cooler than my balls. also keep the bedding moist, that will keep the humidity up. you could also try placing some wet moss or water bowl on the warm side of the tank.

    please get some pics up!
