Yeah, I just gather the extra and use a plastic covered twist tie to bundle it up under the meter in the substrate. That way, only the wire I need to go under the hide is out.

But no, wires wouldn't stress a snake. Just be aware of possible tangling or tugging from the excess hanging out.
