I'd suggest avoiding things like the classic dinner and a movie or a loud club. All that does is prevent you two from getting in a word to each other. Maybe instead early dinner at a restaurant that doesn't tend to be family oriented (why listen to other people's kids cry and fuss on your adults only night out). Then a nice walk so you can talk, hold hands and remember why you made a family in the first place. Is there something you both enjoy like a museum, a lakeside park, or whatever that's close to where you are but you wouldn't tend to go there with your child?
You could even do a pass on the whole restaurant thing and just pack a really nice picnic basket of wine and treats and go sit by a lake. Being parents can be so much about the technical side of life (did you get the milk? don't forget diapers! did you help Jimmy with his homework yet?) that it's far too easy to become Mom and Dad and not a couple of people that fell in love. It's very nice to take an evening or just even a couple of hours to not think about anything but each other and get to talk about something other than the bills, the kids, the car that needs repairs, etc.
Oh and if your wife has just had a baby remember to compliment her. There's not a woman alive who doesn't worry her husband might not find her attractive just after she's had a child. We might not admit it publically but we all worry about that so even a small compliment goes a long, long way to winning you some brownie points.
Those are some great ideas right there.
Its such an awkward feeling to have to figure out what to do without the "baby"...
I told my wife last night we should just go to like bestbuy and shop... LOLOL We havent been anywhere without our daughter in 2 years now.. LOLOL
