    Feeding question

Hey all. I just got my first BP today from Law Reptiles. The guy from there I talked to said my girl was eating a live hopper every 5 days. I was just wondering should i keep feeding live or try pre killed. I read pre killed is best way to go. but the Matt guy from Law Reptiles told me sometimes young BPs can be picky, and some prefer to take live first.. then gradually switch over.

    Re: Feeding question

Generally, due to the stress of being moved from one home to another, it's not a good idea to try switching feeding routines at the same time. Yes, bps can be finicky eaters, but most can be successfully converted to F/T with enough time and effort. I (and most others here) would advise you to let your snake settle into his new home, then feed the same kind of prey the breeder was feeding. After your snake is settled in and feeding regularly, THEN make the switch to F/T. You'll likely have a lot more success that way...

Some BP's will eat anything you put next to them, F/T or Live, but I also think you should wait for the snake to settle in for a few weeks before trying to change things. Over time you will learn your snakes personality

    Re: Feeding question

Snakes naturally eat live, some switch over easily, some need to be condition to eat FT and some never will. I feed over 50 snakes a week live and NEVER had any problems.

I would feed the snake what he is used to, let him put on some size and then try to switch. he may refuse many meals before taking FT so you want him to have size before the transition.
