I think you should wait for one to pip and then cut the rest. just my two cents. But if they are late bloomers. cut on the expected day of birth.

I try to wait, but I haven't had much luck with that. My lack of self control makes me a cutter.

Re: to cut or not?
Last year I waited for them to pip on their own. Once they did any that were not sliced yet got cut. This year so far Ive cut every egg on day 52 to 55, and everything was fine. If you have never cut an egg. I would wait until one pips, then go from there. Then cut the rest. My first clutch ever I got in a rush and wanted to see what was in them. And cut them a bit early, also was very sloppy cuts. (Hand was shaking really bad) I think most will agree that whatever you decide to do don't cut before day 52.

I'm a bit of a rookie...
I know people cut and stuff. But what are the reasons for doing so?
Besides getting an early look at the babies.
This might be a stupid question.
Bare with me.

Not a stupid question at all. I think most people cut early because they want to peek at what's inside. It's a long 60 days, and that last week seems to be the longest.
Personally I don't cut because I like surprises and the anticipation is most of the fun. However, I will cut if I see some that haven't slit the egg themselves after the others are slit. Sometimes they have problems getting out, but I think most of the time those last ones are just lazier than the others. Better safe than sorry, though...

Re: to cut or not?
Thanks.
That answers my question beautifully.
So, sometimes it is necassary to help them out of the eggs.
Ok.
