Good enclosure for a BP?

Hi everyone,

I'm still a little while out from getting my first BP, but I've cruising around the net looking for enclosures. I'm not really thrilled about the tub idea, just for aesthetic reasons, but I haven't liked the idea of fighting with the temp, security and humidity issues that seem to go along with glass tanks either.

In my searching, I found this site:

I wanted to know what ya'll thought. I was thinking about the small one for a hatchling, then upgrading to the 36x24x24 when needed. My primary concern was that there's only a designated spot for one UTH, and I didn't know if I'd need two or not.

Any thoughts?

Those are good cages, which I would invest in if I was older and a bit more wealthy.

Reptile basics has a similar line of cages that are close to what your looking for and might be cheaper.

A 2x3 would fit an adult perfectly while the smaller one would need to be busy with plants and hides.

I suggest (as a thought) of getting basic tubs until he's about a year-two years old (so as not to make a huge investment that you'll grow out of fast) and then move him to the 2x3 cage. :]

You shouldn't need two UTHs. I'm pretty sure you can add other types of heat as well if needed. Including heat lights or heat panels. A UTH should be able to heat up the whole enclosure well because of the well-insolated design.

Tubs are the best for BP's but not for display.
Depends on if you want to be happy or the snake.

You may want to at least consider a tub while it's young and needing a very small enclosure...think of it like buying a crib for a baby human if that helps.

Also there are a couple of choices sort of mid-point between tubs and tanks. There's some lovely enclosures at www.reptilebasics.com and there's also the Iris brand of plastic tubs. Iris isn't as easy to find as Rubbermaid and Sterlite. I find mine at my local OfficeMax. They are plastic but are such high quality that they are absolutely glass clear and have a smooth interior, something you come to appreciate after chipping hard as concrete urates out of a ridge in a tub. Iris is a big more expensive generally than Rubbermaid or Sterlite but well worth it in my opinion.
