My husband made me a thermostat that looks just like the Ranco and the Johnson which I didn't realize until I started shopping for one. The only reason I decided not to use his was that the probe isn't long enough and he says he can't really take it apart and start over. However, he says it costs pennies to make using stuff he already had in the garage. Maybe I'll just get him to make me another one...he was so proud of it :
