    New Spider (Eugene)

The fedex truck dropped off my box from Tim and Monica!!! I put him in his new home, and he's doing great. He cruised around for a little bit and then went into his hide on the warm side. He is gorgeous!! I had never actually seen anything but normals in person. He is amazing looking. I named him Eugene after Eugene Hutz from the band Gogol Bordello.

Here is a quick picture I snapped of him with my iphone. My digicam is in the shop, so its not great. I didn't want to disturb him on his first day of acclimation, so this was the only picture I got of him. In a week and after he has eaten I will get some more pics of him.

Thank you to everyone for all the help and advice over the past two months.

    Re: New Spider (Eugene)

Today was supposed to be Eugene's first meal, but my local pet store was out of pinky and fuzzy rats.

The closest place that sells feeders is 40mins away, and only had adult mice. I thought about getting him one, but since he has been eating pinky and fuzzy rats, I decided to wait until they get some rats in. They should be getting a new shipment in tomorrow though!

    Hope it goes well.

    Re: New Spider (Eugene)

I got a pinky rat today, and got it home. I put it in the farthest corner of his tank and turned all the lights off. I went in about an hour later and it was still there. I was starting to get a little worried. I went back in to check on him again just now and he had the rat in his hide working on its head. I'm really excited for him, and relieved that his first eating went so well.

I guess I'll check on him in a few more hours to make sure he got it down?? Maybe I should just leave him be with the lights off till tomorrow??

On Thursday after he has had some time to digest I will get some pics and weigh him.

    no pics again

I made my first attempt at taking him out, and he looked fine at first, and then struck at me. I let him cool out for a while and tried again and he struck at me again. I'll give him another feeding and another week and try again. Kind of killed my confidence a little, but we got our whole life to become friends

hang in there Bud , he's still new and probs not handled much , a wee trick you can try is put something ( old ! ) that you have worn ...lets them get used to the scent of you ....other times youjust gota go with the flow ...the ''bite'' s nothing really , imagine someone pressing velcro ''hooks '' onto you ....honest its more the lightning speed of movement that gets most ppl gasping , NOT the bite
