I do not require signatures on my packages for that specific reason. I don't want to sound like I don't care about my customers, but you should be home and expecting the delivery. So, if you have not seen the package by 10:30am, check the porch, as it should be there. I do know that they have left some of my boxes on a doorstep before, when the customer was home, but they typically try to put it in the shade, because it says perishable all over the box.

I hope your snake is alright.

That makes some sense Tim, but what is your policy there? What if a customer finally goes out there and sees the package at 3:00 and opens up a dehydrated animal? It's hard to say what the safest method is. If the customer has an IQ over 70, then you'll most likely be OK, but if you're dealing with an idiot, I would think you would want that signature by 10:30. I've only had to ship a couple of times in the past, but it's got me wondering what the best way is for the animals and to cover my own ass.
What are these mojavas I keep hearing so much about?

I agree, I know my FedEx guy and he is petrified of my dog so he puts package down, rings bell(if I'm lucky) and leaves. I watch the door like a hawk and have never missed a package or had any problems.(Thank God)

When I'm waiting on FedEx, I normally grab my ipod and sit out on the front porch and wait.

"Fedex,Terence Moore is home and expecting a package from "breeder." PLEASE knock loudly and ring the doorbell thank you"

I would note on your sign that the box contains a live animal that will be dead if he doesn't deliver this attempt.

    Re: Missed th fedex package!

Almost all of my deleveries have benn Fed Ex, they all went very well, but our Fed Ex guy is about 55 years old and has been doing the job for over 25 years. He doesnt seem like hes in a hurry. However my last delivery of three female babies was delivered by UPS and the guy knocked but then left the package at the door, by the time I got to the door all I saw was a UPS truck driving off, it made me wonder what would have happened if I didnt hear it... This can happen no matter what carrier you use....

Signing for the package is the only reasonable, sane thing to do as far as I'm concerned when you are dealing with living creatures.
Have you ever heard of a signature waiver?
Even if I specify a signature is required, if the buyer has a waiver on file with Fed Ex, they will just drop the box and leave. The waiver overrides me asking for it.
I ask people to take it off if they have one since I don't know (Fed Ex does not give you that info when you prepare a shipment)and have to rely on the buyer saying whether they have one or not. Problem is, no buyer has ever removed it as asked.

Im worried to death because I have no idea how hot or cold the what ever he is in right now is, if he was left on my door step he wouldnt have been there for more than a few minutes.

My last shipment was from repster, and fedex delivered( late)
Somehow I think you'd be complaining and seeing the other side of this if your package containing a live snake got dumped on your porch and some neighbour walked off with it or a wandering dog nailed it or it got left on the wrong porch. Things like that can happen, some of them in a matter of moments. No snake deserves being left unattended like that. To my mind, that's irresponsible behaviour.

Also as a breeder how would you be able to confirm your customer who says the snake arrived dead because you did something wrong had in fact left the snake sitting on his porch in the blazing sun all day because a signature wasn't required? Signatures protect both sides and make sense.
