Fruits are great for them though avoid any citrus fruits, especially for male rats. Frozen grapes for instance make a fun hot weather treat. Frozen peas are like rattie icecream LOL, they love it and it's nice on a hot day.

If you're having a wings night, save the chicken wing bones for them. I keep a plastic icecream container (with lid) in my fridge clearly marked RAT FOOD and into it goes the plate scrapings pretty much every night. Two times a week the rats get this. It might look like a big mess to me but they love it and heck it's better than it goes to a landfill I figure.

Right now for instance in my rat bucket are things like - chicken wings, some leftover three cheese pasta shells, some bread ends that no-one in my house will eat, some chicken breast leftovers, etc. Add that to the leftover lettuce in the crisper and you've got some pretty good rattie treats at no cost to you.
