Could this be an RI? (or am I panicking)

I may be prematurely panicking here - but yesterday my BP's CHE got switched off by mistake for prob about several hours during the day and when I read the temps late afternoon (we're in the UK!) it said 71 degrees throughout the viv - I immediately plugged CHE back in again (somebody unplugged to make way for a hairdryer - we recently had my daughter move back in and the snake room had to become a people room again)

Well today she wanted out of her viv so we got her out and she drooled a few times within a 10 minute period and it hung onto her mouth a bit. This drool was clear - but a bit thicker than if it was just pure water she may have drunk. No blowing bubbles - her nose is clear and not runny. I opened her mouth and looked inside and it all looked pink healthy and normal - no bubbles, no mucous.

Could it have been water that had been inside her a little while and come back up and thickened a bit due to being inside her a little while? She opened her mouth wide once (yawned?) but no sounds of wheezing or any other noise from her.

She's back in her viv now and I've upped the temps a bit. Plug to CHE has also been securely taped to unit so it won't be pulled out again by mistake.

Re: Could this be an RI? (or am I panicking)

I'm no expert here (new BP owner) but I am similarly paranoid about RI's, so I feel your worry! From all my own research, though, it sounds like it was water - mixed with snake saliva, maybe it can get a bit drool-y.

The temp is unfortunate (good idea to tape it down so no more accidental unplugging) but if it was only for a few hours, it's unlikely an RI could have developed so soon afterward... unless it was already latent. When in doubt it's vet time...

I'm sure someone more experienced than me will chime in here soon!

Not to add to your panick but that may be worth having a vet check out. I have had my snake a year and a half and I handle him quite often and I have yet to see him drool. I am not sure which comes first, the drool or the wheezing with an RI but I am pretty sure they are both signs of an RI after it's progressed a bit.

I may be nothing but it sounds like it's worth checking out.

i would get it checked if it persists , you can also look down her throat yourself useing a clean instrument ( i use a cotten swab but all my snakes are 3ft ) just CAREFULLY pry open her mouth and look down her throat then wait for her to take a breath when she does look for any mucous build works best if someone shines a light down her throat while you look

Thank you!! I did look down her throat and it was nice pink and clear. I got her out yesterday evening and she was totally normal - so am reckoning it was indeed just water she had just drunk mixed in with a bit of saliva
