my biggest girl is ~5 ft.

6 ft. is considered big for a ball python.

ball pythons don't get 7-9 feet. That guy is incorrect.

What kind of fears does your mother have about snakes?

And you dont need a large cage or aquarium. They don't take up much space.

    Re: How Big Is Yours?

My biggest BP is not full grown yet so answering that question would be of little use. I can say that I know they do not get to be 7-9 ft!

Yes, BPs are amazing animals! My family just gets more and more amazed and in love with our snakes.

Your mother might appreciate these 2 things:

    1) - Ball pythons get their name because when they feel scared they curl up in to a ball with their head at the center. This makes them much less likely to bite than most other species of snake. Of course, it is always possible that any animal will bite, but a bite from even a full grown BP is not bad enough to cause serious damage. A bite from a dog or cat is much worse.

    2) - I used to volunteer at a zoo that used ball pythons as one of their "contact animals". These were animals that the volunteers could take out to meet the public up close and personal, where people could actually touch them. BPs were selected for this role because of their manageable size and docile nature.

hi mom j/k balls are wonderful pets and they do not get that big my 5 year old male is about 4 feet full grown and about 1200 grams they are chunky but not that long really they are the perfect size imo let the poor kid have one but buy from a breeder and get it sent to you dont buy from the pet stores you may get a low quality sick snake

    Re: How Big Is Yours?

Males stay pretty small, if that helps you any on your quest to own a ball python

If youre looking for a pet only snake, a BP would be a good first bet! Theyre docile, dont require too much in the way of expenses. ( Set up the enclosure right the first time, and you dont really have to worry about much!)

To Mom, your kid here is showing GREAT resourcefulness for researching a pet BEFORE they get one! Sounds to me like they are on the right track to owning a pet snake and doing it responsibly! I say, give them the OK once you feel they have learned enough to properly care for one of these animals

    Re: How Big Is Yours?

Hey Mom...Just let the kid get a BP. They are wonderful pets and will teach a lot of responsibility. They are really easy to maintain but he will have to monitor the heat and humidity. Only eat once a week, beats the heck out of a dog.
