    what kind of dog food?

What kind of dog food is the best for mice? I know that it needs to have a certain protein percentage and stuff but not sure what that is.

I would go with Mazuri 6F or 9F but I have yet to find any dealers that are local.

The food I use is Science Diet senior small bites. All my rodents adore the stuff, and I've not had an incident of cannibalism while using it. This is, of course, in addition to Becky's Mix and Mazuri lab block.

Pinnacle - Holistic Dog Food. It's what my husband buys for our Pitt and I treat the rats on cleaning day to a 1/4 cup. The rest of the time they get rat lab block.

I've heard low-protein is the best for rodents?

Nutro Naturals LITE is very low protein for a dog food. Solid Gold Holistique Blendz is slightly higher but not by much - but it's fish based, and even though it's a far superior food for dogs, I don't know how rodents would like a fish-based food. Or, even, if a high quality dog food equates to a high quality rodent food.

Re: what kind of dog food?

I use Wellness Senior in small amounts for the rats. It has 17% protein. For the mice, however, I use Drs. Foster & Smith Senior(17-18% I think), plus some non-medicated hog feed, plus some whole grains such as cheerios, puffed wheat/rice, crispy rice, and oatmeal. They do alot better on this mix than on the lab blocks and a MUCH lower cannibalization ratio.

FWIW, I've found the mice don't waste the hog feed as much as the lab blocks, and they just grow alot better on it. I pay about $10 for a 50lb bag.

mazuri should be available (special order) at any purina dealer as they are owned by the same company.

most people believe mice need higher protein and fat content than rats.for mice i use dyeless dog food thats 21% protein and 8% fat.it's called country squire and sold at menards HC's.

also check the dealer locator at kentfeeds.com,they make a 19% and 23% rodent food (lab blocks).have fun!

I use pig food from Southern States for feeding my rodent feeder food.
