as far as i'm concerned, a breed is just a morph that has had its genetics proved through many different generations until it is what we think of as a breed.
i don't believe that 'morph' indicates just a coloration difference, but rather any genetic trait that can mutate spontaneously. with the dog example, humans chose which of these morphs to breed, and we eventually came up with many of today's breeds of dog.

Even if you had a champion show dog with perfect traits, you should not breed that dog just to get the green. If you aren't interested in bettering that breed with your dog's genetics, then don't breed it.
If you had the latest BP morph, a crazy wild pattern and bright outstanding colors that never faded with age, you should not breed that snake just to get the thousands of dollars a new morph may bring.
From individuals just looking to make a buck, to those horrid puppy mills, NONE of those people should be breeding their animals. Same goes for the new snake owner who saw the price tags at a show. Cats, Birds, Reptiles... all the same.
Never breed an animal, potentially effecting it's health and future, if you're only interested in the almighty dollar.
i do think that is one of the best ways your point could have been stated. breeding may be a business, but if your animals aren't better for it, then whats the point?

I like the sable best by far!

Poppycock and nonsense.
There is nothing wrong with breeding for the money.
Setting up as a puppy mill is not the proper approach but done correctly there is not a single thing wrong with breeding any animal with the sole intent of selling its offspring.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?

Agreed. Im am sure most of our breeders on here didnt start breeding for the hell of it it just kind of came with the territory and now they have their own online businesses and some do very well at it. The only reasons Why I am going too breed are:
1 to make a little money
2 to breed out certain morphs that I cannot just outright buy.
3 it seems very interesting to me and I would like to share in the experience with others who breed their animals.

I never said not to make money. That would be stupid. Money is a factor every time...but it shouldn't be the sole reason and here's why: How are you treating the animals?
There's a big difference between "I own 100 Ball Pythons so I can have a wide variety of genes to make healthy, beautiful babies to sell."
And
"I own 100 Ball pythons so I can make thousands of dollars."
The first person probably takes the best care they can of their animals, seeing them as wonderful creatures that deserve good care. Money is a factor, but it's secondary.
The second person just sees the snakes as money makers and merchandise, no better then some of these mills and chain store suppliers. They probably only take care of the animals just enough to keep them breeding.
THAT is the point in not breeding only for the desire for money. Wanting to make some money is fine as long as you don't get carried away with that desire and make it everything.

And you are entirely entitled to this opinion.
Even if it is wrong.
I've got probably 30 or so calkings, some of them I've had going back 5 or 6 generations.
Not one of them is a pet. They have one purpose. To breed and produce the finest babies I can get them to. Then I sell the babies which are also not pets.
I do see your point. I also disagree with it.
