Rosy Boa --- You're Opinions Welcomed

Hi Folks!

My son and I are looking into our next snake addition and was considering the Rosy Boa as a possible candidate to add to our small collection. We currently have (3) - Corn Snakes, (1) - Albino Checkered Gart Snake, & (1) - Ball Python. We've been keeping snakes now for about 3 years. We both agree on several things when choosing our snakes; 1) Smaller snakes (i.e under 5-feet). 2) Docile, more handleable snakes.

So, given our experience at snake keeping and what we're looking for we'd like anyone's opinion(s), good or bad, on the Rosy Boa.

Rosy boas are ok, but y dont you try a central american boa, small (big fems reach 6 foot), tame, and BEAUTIFULL!!

I've always wanted a RB but couldn't get one because they grow too big for my parents. I've heard they're known for being very docile but remember this-There are two different personalities Rosy Boas have: either very docile or very aggressive. Be sure to confirm that you get one with the very docile personality, otherwise you'll have a snake that can't be handled.

The rosy boa I have now is very docile and is a GREAT eater! I love that in a snake, they don't make me worry as much as the picky eaters. Rosy boas are known for being docile, and I have never met anyone with a rosy that wasn't a sweet snake - but there are always exceptions.

That statement could be made about almost any snake species that are known to be docile (corns, ball pythons, ect), there will always be a couple that do not follow the trend of the rest and will tend to be more defensive/aggressive - sometimes even having a strong feeding response can be seen as aggression - I have a corn that is a sweetheart out of the cage but she thinks anything that enters if food and treats anything that enters the cage that way.

And a breeder is not going to be able to guarantee what the snakes personality will turn out like in the future. Breeders usually sell snakes at a young age - the way they will turn out personality wise in the future depends on their species, they way they are raised, and their own personality, which cannot always be predicted at a young age. If the snake is older when bought the breeder/seller could give you a better idea of how it interacts while being handled.

Hey, I'm not against RBs at all. This is just something that the buyer should know.

no offense but i think the head/neck is kinda ugly but over all pretty good snake

Rosy's usually have a strong feeding response. So, that could be interp. as aggressiveness by people who don't realize that.

They remind me a little bit of KSBs with the way their heads are shaped.

I hear they are very docile for the most part and are a good species! :]
