Vacuum Sealed Feeders

I've never really ordered in bulk before to have any issues with storing F/T but lately I've been trying to increase my orders to save a bit on shipping. How long can you store F/T vacuum sealed feeders? Is there a loss of nutritional value the longer they are frozen? I just picked up about a 6month supply.

Rich, I was told back when I fed f/t that the general rule of thumb is up to 6 months for non-furred rodents and up to 1 year for fully furred rodents. That of course would rely on a person's keeping them well frozen and making sure the packages are properly closed and "burped" after you remove some prey from them each week.

Thanks Jo, I always reseal open bags in a ziplock freezer storage bag and make sure I get any excess air out. I thought I would be good for at least a year but I needed the reassurance

I have a vacuum sealer and seal all frozen rodents. They last well over a year if you keep them sealed or re-vacuum seal the bag after opening it.

Food Saver?

I was thinking about getting one for my F/T buddies.

if you don't want to buy a Food Saver there are some feeder providers that individually vacuum seal rats. I get mine at the Taylor MI show last weekend. I think the vendor was called Hookers? I don't remember their names exactly, but i got a months worth of frozen weanlings for my young female.

I use the Reynolds Handi-Vac. Buy it from walmart for like $8. Bags are cheap to. Pull out a rat and vacuum seal it right back up. Awesome

Yep. Can't remember the model # off the top of my head though. It does canisters as well.
