very cute rescue. hope all goes well for her recovery. I have a question though.. being as the conditions she was kept in were not remotely close to adequate, did that permanently stunt her growth or will she, with proper husbandry fill out and even grow lengthwise? Or will she always be on the smallish side? sorry if this hijacks the thread, but its a question that came to mind. thanx.

She looks pretty good condition-wise. I would advise not to feed her big meals too often at first, you may shock her kidneys or liver, and cause them to fail. Her color likely won't stay the same. It seems to be a side effect of not having proper nutrition. I rescued a female last year who was axanthic in coloration because she was starved. She slowly brightened up as she gained weight.

Good luck with her! Definitely get a fecal done as soon as you can. You never know what she's been exposed to in a screen cage.

I was going to mention this color change as well. I have a good handful of rescues coming in with that color, and when fed properly, color up a lot more. She is beautiful never-the-less, and even more a very lucky snake to have finally found you to give her a good home

I do believe that is a retained eye cap. I wouldn't mess with it - worry about giving her a stress-free, properly set up home, and the next shed should take it off.

It's hard to say how much length she will gain. Who knows, she could come from a line of "short" snakes, and not gain much. She may take to the nutrition and shoot "up". Either way, I'm sure she will end up a nice, round, healthy snake when you are done And make sure to get the fecal done.

I know about the possible shock to her system. That's why I'm just going to keep her on the same SIZE prey, but bump her up to the frequency at which my snakes eat. If she doesn't want it, she doesn't want it. I figure she'll know what's best for herself and as long as I keep offering then between the two of us we'll get it worked out.

As for the question of her growing, I'd been wondering that myself. I wouldn't be surprised if 5 years of sub-par (to say the least) nutrition hasn't permanently stunted her. I guess we'll see as time goes on.

And regarding the parasites - I intend to have a fecal done as soon as she gives me one. -lol- I asked the owner if they'd taken her to the vet ever, and they said they had when she was younger for a check-up and when they had to remove her tail tip. They said the vet never found anything wrong with her. The screen enclosure was kept in the living room of a very nice house. I don't think she would have been exposed to parasites in that way at least. But still, just to be safe I will eventually take her in.

I'm sad to hear that her color will change because I really fell in love with how she looks now. But if it's caused by improper nutrition, then it can't change fast enough!

Awww, the poor baby Well she is a absoloutely beautiful snake- I just love her color! But she is just sooo tiny!! I rescued a four year old male BP that was in bad condition- RI, ratained shed, the works. Oh, and he had no hides either, and with housed with another snake. But comparin him to yours- hes a monster! Even he wasnt that small!! But I'm glad you got her- congrats!

I didn't know that about the color change! Interesting. Who knows though, maybe she's special and won't have a dramatic color change. ;] Right now at least, she is stunning. But if it needs to change for health then please post pictures when she's back up and running!

Just wanted to let y'all know that she pummeled a frozen rat pup last night. She's gotten all comfy in her hides and when I opened the top she came charging out at me. -lol- (I'd pre-scented) I grabbed some tongs and she went for it like she'd never eaten before in her life. (She probably really felt that way; poor girl.)

She's taken to tub life like a fish to water.

btw - "Tub life" is the reptile equivalent of "Thug life"
