Heat controll problems...

Umm, I didn't know Herpstats only had 3 outlets! Great... I need some help here.

I planned on using a Herpstat to control the warm sides of my two 3-tub racks...which use ZooMed pads on each level for the warm sides(I got them for free). That's 6 plugs. Is there ANY way to be able to plug all 6 into the Herpstat?? Could I use some sort of extension on each of the three to allow one to hold two? Has anyone ever had a problem like this before, and if so how did you work it out??

I know I could use a Johnson (6 outlets) for the warm sides and the Herpstat for the cool sides (4" FW strips as 'side heat', so just 2 plugs)... but I prefer the better stat controlling the higher temps.

Suggestions?? What should I do?

As long as you don't exceed the Herpstat's total wattage output you can plug in as many as you need to. Make sure they are all the same type and wattage of heating element or the temps won't be the same across the board.

I don't know how Herpstats work as I use Helix but if you are going to use a powerbar to get those extra outlets make sure it doesn't have a surge protector on it. According to the booklet that came with my Helix, the surge protector on a power bar can mess with the built-in fuse system on a Helix. Not sure if Herpstat's are the same but thought I would mention it anyways.

Good point! I was thinking a couple of those small white blocks that make 1 outlet into 3. Cost about 98 cents

Thanks, guys I was thinking about those little blocks as well. I didn't think it would be a good idea to plug a power strip INTO a stat.

Well, the warm side sources are all 30-40gal sized ZooMed pads, so they all have the same watts. It's surprising to me that one of the top stats - Herpstat - can only take 500W while a Johnson can take 1500W. Strange... But it really doesn't matter much since I doubt any stat I used would ever have even 100W on it. Ah the advantages of heat pads and FW.

It's perfectly fine to plug a power strip into your tstat. Who said it wasn't ok?

The Herpstat is proportional and the Johnson is on/off. That makes a big difference in the wattage they handle.
