    Re: My first Eggs!!!!

well its day 35... how do i go about figuring out how many albinos i have? i was under the impression that the pattern is the last thing to develop so they will probably all look like albinos... no?

    Re: My first Eggs!!!!

Mike, you should definitely be able to see pattern on some of the snakes by day 35. Pattern is one of the first things to develop. Color comes in later. If you start candling now, you should see slight pattern on the normals, and that pattern will get darker as the days go by. The Albinos will look like a mass in the egg, but you won't be able to see any pattern. Also the Albino eggs seem to glow brighter, because they reflect some of the light back out of the egg. Even if you cut your eggs at day 55, they babies will still gain color up until shortly after they hatch.

    Re: My first Eggs!!!!

Let us know how it goes. I believe candling is an art, and you get better the longer you do it. The only downfall is that you can find out what is in the egg a good three weeks before it hatches. That'll make the time slow down sometimes. Take me for example: I candled some eggs 12 days ago, and found out that we have 2 Leucistics in the egg, but, we are still 7 days away from being able to cut them. It seems like the days go by so slow.

    Re: My first Eggs!!!!

no kidding! 2 lucys would be awesome to hatch out.

i just feel fortunate that for my first eggs i have a chance of hatching an albino.

for candling do you pick up the eggs and try to get different angles or do you just leave them in the egg box and candle them that way?

    Leave them in the box...

Don't move them at all. Just candle from whatever angle you can

    Re: My first Eggs!!!!

We pick ours up and flip them all different directions, in an attempt to find the best spot. We just make sure to put the up mark back up when we replace the egg. That is how we do it, but some may not want to take that risk. It has never harmed any of our hatchlings to date.
