I think that as long as you know what you are looking for when you go shopping you should be able to get one for a good price... where I am they seem to be holding still. Dropping, but not hugely fast, even at shows, as there are not that many available yet.

This season could change that though.

But I would always pay the extra few dollars for one that fits into what I want to eventually work on, and to ensure I am getting a nice snake from someone I trust.

I will not even admit to what range I would still pay... (there are two shows coming up - do not what to jinx myself ).
