    Tegu Eggs Hatching!!!

Originally 27 eggs, I threw out 18 mistakenly believing they were no good. The 9 remaining candled well, and the parents were Arg. Red Tegu and Arg Black and White tegu.
2 have hatched so far. I've already seen both eat small crickets!

    Why do you say "mistakenly"?

You weren't sure they were bad?

You did they hatch in the trash?

No, the whole "don't turn reptile eggs" thing? I dug them out.. yes, I'm THAT obsessed. I found over 2/3rds of the ones I tossed, all rotten. (3 days later, after being tossed and tumbled)
But here's a happy video, very short, sorry.

The reds(that are now my adults!!) when I got them, note the absence of stripes on the back.

I wonder if the stripes will stay on these hybrids?

Anyone that can help me find any hatchlings that have the stripes on the net, I'd appriciate it. Thanks! I gotta stop staring at them, they will get a complex.

So how much room does one of them neat little critters take up? I want a tegu or a monitor!

    Re: Tegu Eggs Hatching!!!

Tegus get big, 4ft long for smaller reds, and larger(these are hybrids so I'm not sure).
And it's a bulky 4 ft min. So they need a 8ft long cage, plus a high temp basking spot. Mine enjoy a 8x8ft outdoor cage, plus a roomy indoor cage. But they don't poo in the water dish the way the monitors do(at least mine don't).
