Humidity Maximum (KSB)

I've been looking everywhere in care sheets and through books and theres only one thing I can't seem to find.

For a Kenyan Sand Boa, what is the humidity range? I know that they are supposed to have a very low humidity but I haven't been able to find what is safe, dangerous, or ok. I'm guessing less than 50% but I want to be sure.
I know your supposed to provide a humidity box for their shedding schedule, but this still tells me nothing..

What is the maximum humidity that is safe for a KSB? Is it ok for it to be almost, completely dry in the tank?

Since they are from arid conditions I would assume they do not need any sort of humidity - I live in AZ so I don't have to worry about anything, it is the desert! I keep mine in a screen top tank which makes sure the humidity does not get high. I've read about some species of snakes possibly developing RIs or other complications if they have high humidity levels in captivity when they come from dryer areas of the world.

Why would it not be completely dry in the tank? Just make sure the cage is well ventilated and the substrate you use stays dry. If you are going to provide a humid hide then there should not be a problem, the snake can decide when it wants to move into a more moist area.

My daughter has 2 KSB's and they have calci-sand as substrate and a water bowl they can get into. They have had no problems shedding. I do not recommend the calci-sand and I am going to change them to sani-chips. I origonally used the sand but I am not thrilled with it so I am going to switch when I clean cages this week. I have not had any problems with it and they have been living on it for a couple months now I just personally like the sani-chips better.

How long have you had your KSB's? Have they had problems shedding?

I don't have him yet. I'm getting him soon. Thats why I want to know. :]
Alright, I have a screen top set up for him for sure, I don't think I'll ever plan on getting more than one sand boa because I would probably have to get more screen top tanks instead of having him in a tub as the humidity could get high.
I have his tank setup already, it's a ten gallon (for a male) with crushed walnut shells about an inch-inch & half deep. Screen top with locking slid-in lid.

One site I went to said only offer water 3 times a week.. I'm thinking thats really stupid if they get thirsty.

That is a common misconception about Sand Boas. They DO NOT require low humidity. Actually, tubs work great! I keep my large females in 32 quart sterilite, males in 16 quart sterilite tubs and babies in shoebox tubs.

I keep my humidity at 50-60% regularly and mist a little bit once they are getting ready to shed.

If you look back through the archives on Reptile Radio you will find a show where they had Jasons Jungle as a guest. He covers the basic care requirements of Kenyan sand boas.

I am buying my first KSB from Jason at Jason's Jungle TOMORROW!! I am super stoked, and if you have seen his snake building...that's right, not room, but building, you'd realize that any advice he gave, is advice to follow!
