figured i would ask just to know?? is to much humidity bad

my little guys in a tub with a uth and his air in the tub stays about 80- 85. But since i stuck him in the tub a couple days ago and misted it the humidity slowly climbed to 95 and stay there for a two days now can that hurt them or what?? just want to be safe i would think it would hurt him but just wanted to know.

p.s. i had to move him to a tub cause a screen top tank caused bad humidity levels and he had a bad shed.

Yup, too high of humidity over time can increase the chance of an upper respiratory infection. Also, if the snake is on any sort of wet bedding, your increasing the chance of scale rot.

Just melt or drill a lot of holes to increase the circulation.

yes too high of humidity can cause an RI. A few days at that % prolly wont do anything as that kind of stuff happens in the wild but constant humidity above 70-75% is a bad idea. Is there a particular reason you misted his tub? Leave his tub open for a lil bit while hes sleeping and let it get back down to normal humidity and then see what your working with.

I was just asking someone about the same thing.. I recently moved him to a tub and the humidity peaked at 99% yesterday.

So basically, if your worried about it add a bit more circulation (poke some holes) use newspaper or paper towel substrate instead of moisturized bark stuff. I use white paper towels in my 20gals and it looks really nice in there! Its a lot easier to clean too.
Maybe use a smaller water bowl if it still stays up.
Mines at 85% now but basically, it won't do anything super bad for a few days or short period of time, you just have to make sure they are getting enough air circulation. :]

thanks guys i misted it cause it was habit with the glass tank i think ill just remove the lid and let it calm down them go from there i dont want to put to many holes cause then ill have a prob. with no humidity again

Instead of misting 3-4 times a day, you can wet the towel in the morning and go on about your business. It keeps humidity more stable and doesn't have the rapid spikes of increased and decreased humidity.

What are you measuring humidity with? The dial guages from pet stores are horribly unreliable and also you want to make sure you dont mist the device directly. 50-60% is more want you want

no i have a the digital set up by zoomed i mist with the humidity spray for reptiles with all the vitamins cause he had problems with low humidity and his eyes started to have little dents i am not home so i told my girl to make sure his paper towels not wet and probably just let it sit for a day since he had a bad shed last week and has a little on his head still and tomorrow when hes sleeping watch him and remove the lid let it drop and put it back on and watch it and see where it sits if it starts to go back up again ill drill more holes

Here, it NEVER gets below 80%.The breeder I got my bp from succesfully keeps over 100 ball pythons and he's never had a problem. It's all a matter of being extra careful when it comes to the hygene in the tub. You might need to clean it more often so as not to allow bacteria growth.

If you can get the humidity down by drilling/melting holes on the tub, then great! If not, double your cleaning efforts and don't lose sleep over it.

So far, my experience proves this out to be true. I have over 80snakes, been keeping them in RB and JJ racks. While I have melted a few holes for more air circulation, and open the racks once a day, the humidity is high and I have great sheds from all of my animals (including the girl who had her back chewed up and given to me) and no cases of R.I to this date..over 3 years so far in the racks. I clean once a week (they are on Aspen substrate) to keep down mold and dry out the substrate. I stopped using paper as a substrate, because it gets wet too fast.

I am more of the mind that it's high humidity combined with OTHER FACTORS that may be a cause of some forms of R. I. because, too low humidity has consistently caused R.I (in tanks)..and since there is no perfect set up...and no one knows exactly what percentage of humidity is perfect for BPs, I prefer to err on the side that hasn't been a consistent factor in R.I. cases.
