Only 1/3 of the bottom of the tub should be covered. I keep the hot side (bottom of tub) at 92 F, and the cool side around 80 F. The hide should be on the hot side, if you decide to use one. The water bowl should be on the cool side. I also suggest to use flexwatt as opposed to an under tank heater. Call Rich at Reptile Basics. He has everything you will need, including heat and tubs. If you plan on getting more than one ball, I suggest purchasing a rack system. This comes with tubs and heat. Hope this helps.

I am aware that it's impractical and that it's going to be a challenge to maintain heat and humidity. That's part of the charm. I don't plan on building a collection of snakes. So a little over kill on one isn't going to hurt. But I am starting small and I may never set the 75 up. I just think it'd be fun to set up a habitat that large.

Thank you very much. I'm already sold on the flexwatt. Are hides less neccessary in tubs since it is already kind of small and private. Is that why you said if I decide to use one?

I have 10 ball pythons in a tub rack system (from RBI) and all ten of those snakes have one hide in the tub (hides also from RBI). All ten of the snakes use their hides and just move them around with them as they thermoregulate. They come out of their hides after dark and cruise their tubs.

I have one little female who likes to have 2 hides in her tub and she goes back and forth between those two hides.

I also have 3 ball pythons in 2x3x1 cages (from RBI) and they have 2 hides in there cage and they use them all day, coming out after dark to cruise their cage.

Some BPs prefer two hides, even in tubs, and some as was said will move one hide around with them. My biggest girl does that with hers and it messes up her tub something awful.

Don't forget that with flexwatt you NEED a good thermostat! At least a Johnson or Ranco.
