    Bad day...

Not sure if this is the right area for this, but couldnt think of where else to put it.
Came home yesterday and cooked dinner, went about the usual check of the snakes and geckos.. Found that one snake wasnt looking to good at all. She was looking and acting normal the day before.. Gave her a bath and that didnt seem to help so I called for emergency vets. Took 45 mintues to get there from here but we got there. She was still alive but had a very low blood pressure. They tried to raise it to no luck and after 2 hours and discussing the testing I wanted run if they could we lost her.

Here comes the main reason for me posting this.. For those of you in SE Mi.. I called around most the day for a necropsy to be done on her. Was ready to take her to MSU when I decided to call one more vet. Found out that there is a 48 dollar disposal if the remains arent picked up but the necropsy is done at no charge. This was actually pretty good news I thought and if anyone else has issues I would highly recommend this place. They are all very good vets there. Its Parkway Animal Hospital in Clinton Twp..
    heres there site.

We should know in a few days what the results are.

I'm so sorry to read of your losing this snake. How heartbreaking. It is good though that you are trying to find out why it happened.

If you would like to PM me at some point and provide any information on this vet and a short comment I'd be pleased to include them in our Exotics Vet List. A good herp vet isn't always easy to find especially in emergency situations like this.

    Re: Bad day...

Really sorry for your loss, but as it was explained to me when I lost my first BP, it can be a numbers game. The more snakes we keep the more apt we are to lose some.

It does not diminish your grief.

I hope you find out the cause. My condolences.

I know its a numbers game and the more you have the more risk.. We lost one girl as she was laying eggs. It collapsed as it was coming out. but I know it happens expecially with breeding. This girl hadnt been breed. but hopefully we find out what went on with her.
I will pm the info on the vets. Its good to have a list of recommendations I know

    Re: Bad day...

Necropsy results are in... There was nothing major wrong that could get my other snakes sick.. She looked well taken care of on the inside for the most part. She had a swollen gall bladder, with bile fluid still inside. She also had hard urates and showed signs of kidney failure. We had an issue 6 months ago with bad feeders we obtained.. and the vet said that it is very possible that it led to the kidneys failing.. Since they were all treated then as poisoned. The others are still doing ok. And he said to keep a close eye and bring them if I see any little change. But it looks like she just held out and couldn’t take it because of her age.. he determined her to be around 8 years or older.
