    Heat pad temps

    Hi !
I just got today a thermosthat to control the heat pad temp in my ball python glass tank. What it would be the ideal temperature to set without using too many layers of newspaper, so my ball it won't get burned?

Set your thermostat for 93-95 degrees. Set the thermostat probe inbetween two sheets of newspaper to ensure that the thermostat is really heating his substrate to that degree.

Cool side should be in the low to mid 80's.

You mean adding one layer on the bottom, then the probes, and another layer covering up the probes, right?

    Excuse my ignorance!

yea how ever you want to do it. Just try to keep the probe as close as possible to the surface to get the most accurate readings for your snakes belly.

Not trying to contradict you, Connie, but I would use foil tape to place the thermoSTAT probe right on the UTH under the tank. Set your thermometer probe as said, under the layer of paper, and set your stat until you get the desired temp readout on the meter. Usually the stat will be anywhere from 2-6 degrees higher than the inside reading since it's measuring directly on the source. This way, the stat probe has no chance of being moved or affected by moisture.
