Herpstat ... how do they work?

Ummm....I'm a noob.

Do those Herpstat Thermostats actually regulate the energy output to a UTH based on the reading from their probes? and can they do multiple temp settings for multiple devices (ie: power manage hot and cool side) or do you need one per target location?

One probe will monitor and control one outlet...or one UTH.

If you got a herpstat with 2 outputs, then yes it could monitor a cool side and the warm side at the same time, because there would be two probes, with two independent controllers.

The herpstats are proportional, meaning based on the temperature, it will turn power on and off accordingly. If it's too hot, the power is at 0%. if it's too cool the power increases by 10% up to 100% until the probe senses the correct temperature and then starts to reduce power.

It's just like your A/C thermostat

Yeah they regulate the energy based on the probe temperature. Once up to temperature they hardly use any power. The only time they are at full power is when the heat tape is first warming up. They can be set for On/Off mode but why bother?

The basic Herpstat and Herpstat ND only have one probe thus temperature. The Herpstat II has 2 probes 2 outputs, herpstat pro has 4 probes 4 outputs..
