Oil filled space heaters
Have any of you guy's ever tried heating your reptile rooms to a constant temp with a couple of these heaters? I want to just heat my Bp room to 89 degrees so I won't need any additional heat. Do you guy's think its a good idea?

Re: Oil filled space heaters
I use one in my snake room. Keeps it at 84 all year round! I use it with a Ranco, turn the thermostat on the heater all the way up and control the temps with the Ranco. I wouldn't use it as a sole source of heat though. I like my snakes to have a temperature gradient. 82-84 ambient and 90-94 on the hot spot.

Oil filled heaters rule over all.
They take a bit to warm up. But they hold temps much more stable. Like jglass said. Set em on a Ranco. I had mine set at 82 forever till i changed my setup. I now use RHP's.
Then you just need supplemental heat for the hot side of the cage.
Hope this helps.

I think that on those snakebytes.tv vid I've heard them mention that the all python room is kept at a constant 90 degrees...so I can't imagine they would have too much supplemental heat.
You will need some fans to circulate the air as well.
I prefer to use a good temp gradient, I like my BP's to have their choice of hot vs cold.

Re: Oil filled space heaters
I love my oil filled heater. I recently thought to hook it to a thermostat(because I'm really really slow upstairs.. okay??) and it's awesome. I only use one, it heats a amazing amount of space, for pennies a day.

Yeah they are cheap to run, I have a couple (just household use) and I love them. Plus it seems like they would be better at preserving the humidity levels compared to central heat.

I have used one for years to set the ambient temperature where I want it. They have never failed me.

Re: Oil filled space heaters
I have a small 400 watt one that I can run off my herpstatpro and in the winter I run a 1500 watt on a ranco a few degrees cooler as a back up. I'm in Southern Cali so heating is minimal.
