It is possible...but not recommended.

You can get the ZooMed ReptiTemp 500R thermostat at ReptileSupply.com for about $21 or so. It's a dial-type stat, so you have to tweak it and have a trustworthy thermometer reading temps to set it right. They're great for poor snake owners as an 'until I can afford better' stat.
