My BP just had his first meal

I got him a few days ago and he just had his first hopper tonight. It was a live one but I knocked him out really good before feeding.

This is the first time I've watched a snake eat in person. It was really cool but he seemed to struggle quite a bit. He spent like 15 minutes trying to eat it sideways. He finally managed to get it down though.

I'm excited about my first snake. Too bad his temps were so bad today. It got hot while I was at work and his cage was up to 105 on his basking side and about 92 on the other. Oops. I'll be upgrading to one of those thermostats from reptilebasics w/ some flexwatt soon. Can't wait to get it because keeping his temps steady is a real struggle.

Mine were also pretty bad at the whole swallowing prey thing too when they were young. He'll get better with practice!

    Hope so, thanks!

Also, I just placed an order from reptilebasics.com for 1ft of 11inch flexwatt already setup along w/ a pre-wired johnson control thermostat. I also got myself a nice digital scale, and an infrared temp gun.

Total spent on BP (including snake) is $305

I'm gonna have a nice enough setup to get a new snake LOL

Yeah my little guy struggled too (he is new and has only been fed once so far). He kept trying to swallow it sideways and struggled for a while. It was kind of sad, they get sooo excited but then can't figure out how to fit it in their mouth.

yeah, same thing here, Pele ate for the second time on monday, and she constricted for about ten minutes then she shifted, and the pink started trying to escape, im not talking postmortem twitches either. the mouse was moving all around trying to get away from her, so she constricted again for another 20 minutes, then finally the pink died, and she spent about another ten minutes looking for the head and trying to figure out the best way to start in on her meal lol but im just happy she ate, albeit slowly and awkwardly. like someone else said, i think they just figure things out as they grow.
