I'm curious, what do you mean by that? I'm not trying to be confrontational or condescending or anything. Is it somehow unethical to produce a hybrid between the two python types? I think it's quite a cool-looking snake, myself.

It's more about ethics for me. Two snakes from completely different continents? I'm not content with such a wide rift and crossing it. Same thing with the blood ball, it's nice looking, but why even cross the two species in the first place?

Head looks ridiculously too small for it's body. The pattern is nice, but Hybrids suck.

Re: Woma Ball - WOW SICKNESS!

The thing I don't like is that its creator made the decision for all future herpers that they can no longer be sure of having a pure cb ball python.

I have a neat looking petstore girl and I joke that she is half Burmese. If I had found her 10 years from now rather then 7 years ago I might seriously have to worry that she might be a descendent of a woma or Burmese cross rather than an actual ball python mutation.

I think it’s just a matter of time before in a few generation the offspring of these hybrids are lost into the pet trade.

Re: Woma Ball - WOW SICKNESS!

Why does the concept of hybrids violate any ethics? What moral principle does it break?

Now I'm not saying that you have to like the animal or not, but I don't quite understand the deep hatred that I see for hybrids. (unless you're a car) I probably would not breed one, but I wouldn't have any problem with owning one in my collection. I do not have a problem with their existance either.

Also I don't think using the word sickness in a thread about snakes, is probably the best idea... but that may just be my old age kicking in.

Here's my take on it...I'll use Jungle Carpets and locality Boas for examples...Jungle Carpets - It is impossible now a days to claim you have a 100% JCP...Why? Because of all the mixing and matching (creating hybrids) that was done back in the day with Diamonds...People crossed JCP's with Diamonds in hopes of making the Diamond a stronger animal...A lot of pure Diamonds die (for no apparent reason) after a few years...Have you ever looked for a pure Diamond? Hard to find but it's not hard to find 88%'ers, 66%'ers, ect...If you do find one - Buyers want proof - Documentation...Look at all the mixing with Coastals, IJ's, and every other Carpet out there - Just look at the Jaguar Carpets...The Jag was suppose to be a pure Coastal morph - Look at them now - Bredli Jags, JCP Jags, Irian Jaya Jags, Diamond Jags...People can't trace lineage of mutts...Same with locality Boas...People mix and match dwarfs with Columbians and True Red Tails and create mutts...I don't want a mutt - I want a 100% pure locality Boa...Problem is - Lots of people won't represent their animals truthfully and you end paying damn good money for something that's not what you paid for...I don't want a Columbian/Hog/Nic cross - I want a pure Hog or a pure Nic...The majority of the crossing in the Boas is centered around the morphs but it's getting harding and harder to find nice - pure blooded locality Boa that you can honestly say are 100% pure...That's were my dislike of Hybrids comes from...

I already explained myself. Why cross species from two different continents? They aren't even remotely related besides being Pythons or boas.... It just dont seem right to me.

Then as BT explained so well, it does muddy the bloodlines.

I dont hate them, just dont need them.

Re: Woma Ball - WOW SICKNESS!

With ball pythons where we don't really have locality strains I'm looking at it from a new morph perspective. In a few years when you find a neat new looking cb ball python you will not know if it's an actual ball python where you have a chance that it's a new single gene mutation you can reliably reproduce or some complex mix of lots of genes from another species.
