Oh No!
Here's an update on the scale rot treated girl that was lying funny last week with a swelled back end.

Since the last posting, she had a large dump, ate the day after going, and according to the vet has follicles. Now she is wrapping her bowl and going into shed.
Can you say post ovulation shed?
The seller still says she has never been with a male.
I know she has not been with a male here since she is still in QT.
If he never put her with a male and I never put her with a male, then how come it seems that about 2 months after arriving she appears to be gravid?!

Re: Oh No!
A female can ovulate without being bred. She will either lay slugs or re-absorb them.
It's not at all uncommon.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?
Stinky says, "Women should be obscene but not heard." Stinky is one smart man.

Re: Oh No!
She seems to be going farther along than ovulating and reabsorbing. If no male has ever been in contact with her, then it will most likely be duds. I have not had the opportunity to see a BP do this before when no male was ever present so if she does end up laying something, this will be very interesting.
However, based on the various issues I had with the guy about this girls history and health, I tend to think she was with a male and may end up laying viable eggs (although I have no idea how she could after being in such bad shape when she arrived here).

From my experience, females will not eat a minimum of two months before ovulating...

Re: Oh No!
I have only had them go off feed after the shed and right before dropping. Most will resume feeding a few days after dropping eggs.

Re: Oh No!
Whats her back ground? Is she a wc? Maybe the guy got her in and thought she wasnt gravid? Could be a very cool clutch.. Atleast its an exciting one until they hatch..

And to clarify further...once a female ovulates she will not resorb. Follicles can be resorbed, and the female will not subsequently ovulate, since there's nothing there to "move forward" with the entire process.
After ovulation, whatever is in there is coming out, whether fertile eggs, infertile eggs or little yellow immature ova (aka "slugs").
