hardware cloth/plastic tub lids

I use zip ties on the lids and as long as they are nice and tight and checked on a regular basis you should be fine, if i notice a tub that is always trying to chew out I will take some aluminum tape and run it around the edges over the zip ties and this seems to stop them for awhile but never have had to many issues

But then you have to worry about rats impaling themselves on the ends, because the staples stick out.
