    Pastels...

So I finely got my pastel in today (slight mix up in addresses) and his paper work said that he is a NERD line Lemon Pastel. This being my first morph and the first morph I have ever seen out side of photos, some questions came to mind...

What are the differences between the pastels besides the Breeders or "lines"?
I.E. Lemon Pastel, Blonde Pastel, Pastel Jungle, Yellow Jackets, Sunburst Pastels, and standard Pastels?

I looked through alot of photos before desideing to post my question here and it seems that most pastels besides the Yellow Jacket and the Sunburst look alike. The Yellow Jacket being much more yellow and the sunburst as babies seem to look like they were painted with neon colors of orange, pink and yellow.

    2nd question,

The Sulfer Pastel, what really is it?

I have heard that is color morph, and i have also heard that it is a crossing of 2 moprhs.

that is all I really have for now. I might have more questions later depending on the answers I get.

    Re: Pastels...

A sulfur pastel is a pastel crossed with a sulfur ball python. I believe they have one on EBN (exotics by nature) in their collection section.

It's a pretty stunning pastel though to say the least. They have alot of orange blushing with a ton of yellow. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

    NERD lemon pastels ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Congrats on your new snake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NERD (New England Reptile Distributors) is run by 2 amazing people: Kevin and Kara. They created the lemon pastel, with its bright yellow and deep black and the ability to hang on to these colors even into their adulthood (lots of pastels sort of fade to brown...) Lemons make the BEST bumblebees!!!!!!!!!!!
So, you have a NERD snake and that means that you have a healthy and excellent quality snake!!!
    WoooHooooooooooooooooooo
    Enjoy!!!!

    Re: Pastels...

Not to rain on the party... but I have noticed people breed their "nerd line" pastel to anything and everything because of the "name" so to speak. Some of the ugliest pastels I have seen have had the name "nerd line" pastel like they're trying to make a point.

I base each pastel on how they look and on the 'name' last. I really believe selective breeding takes a toll on how pastels look.

In my opinion, a pastel is a pastel. They are all compatible. Go with the best looking one, regardless of the line. Hope this helps. BTW, post some pics!!

    Re: Pastels...

the blood line is just who produced it. In the dog world, you go with reputable bloodlines so you know you're getting a proven animal. However, when other ppl get their hands on an animal from that particular bloodline and then do their own breeding, the blood can get "tainted" if you will.

Just go on the best animal, and work from there.

    Re: Pastels...

thanks every one. I will have to say he is very very yellow and orange. The guy who had him bred a nerd female with a nerd male, my male is from that breeding. I dont know if he is a good looking male or not.(I really like him) He is how ever very junky with all the black markings. He has some nice blushing, white belly, and a ton of flames. (they look like flames but I dont know what they are called on pastels.) I'll try and take some photos as soon as I can. I'm moving into our new house today and I have to wait untill friday for my computer to get here. so maybe saterday I'll have some pictures.

You are correct. Sean does have a pair, and there is one on his collection page. The Sulpher Pastel is a cross between a Pastel and a Sulpher. I tried to do the cross this year, but my Pastel female did not cooperate. It is a very amazing looking animal, and definitely a worthehile cross.

Does anyone have an example of this happening?

    Well, that's rather misleading....
