    planning on getting a boa

well im pretty sure that when i go to the reptile show around me on fathers day that im bringing myself home a boa

ive thought about it for a while now and i think it would be a great addition to my reptiles.

what should i expect for price for a normal (i have snakes but first boa and dont plan to start off with a morph) for either a male or a female baby

it really all depends on me getting 2 cage stacks from a f.o.a.f. in about a week or so

either way im prepared to make sure i can maintain a healthy environment for him/her well into its life

Re: planning on getting a boa

Well, a normal BCI from my experience can live in the same environment as ball pythons although mine requires just a bit more humidity than my ball to shed correctly. I would say expect between maybe 50 and 80 for a normal. Although I did pay 90 for mine. I probably over paid but in my eyes she was worth it. Just go through the show and find one that stands out to you. If you are worried about size go with a male and if you have future breeding plans and aren't worried about size go with a female.

im not worried about size but at the same time think that im goin to end up breeding balls instead and so the male/female doesnt matter

is there any traits that the males or females have with agression?

Re: planning on getting a boa

There is no difference between males and females with aggression. That would be completely up to the individual boa. The only problem is that at a show the snakes tend to be cold and therefore all appear docile. In general though boas are very docile and inquisitive. Just pick one from a breeder that routinely handles their snakes and you should be good to go. Be prepared to provide it with a 4x2 enclosure as an adult.

Re: planning on getting a boa

I agree. All my boa girls will go from their RBI 3x2 cages into AP T-20's (6x2x2). I just don't feel that 4 foot long cages do it for a male or female boa.
As far as purchasing a boa, have you thought of going through a breeder instead of a show? I am reluctant to get animals at shows due to stress, lack of QT between animals and show-goers handling them from table to table. I would far prefer to order from a respectable breeder and know that my snake is going to be just what I want: good personality, good health.
Jimi (jimisnakes.com) has really awesome boas, has normals, and handles them so regularly that he can tell you the personalities of each of them. I would order from him any day. I would never buy at a show.
    Just my 2 cents...

Re: planning on getting a boa

Not to disagree at all, but as long as you know the person's rep that you're buying off from at a show, you should be ok. It's when you buy off any Jo-shmow at a show that you're asking for trouble. I pre-treat all the stuff I bring to a show Provent-a-mite 2 days before I leave to ensure the snakes will be healthy AND safe. So, McKinsey is right but I thought I would add in a "clause" to her statement...lol
