Depends on what part of the country you're in, really. Around here, there's a culture of killing snakes on sight. Then we have these annual rattlesnake hunts that, IMO, are really horrible and backward. A kid at the school where I teach was very proud of her picture of herself holding a six-foot rattler. They sew the mouth shut for these pictures. I think that's pretty sick.

I think you and I have similar feelings about animal cruelty, in any case.

that has got to be one of the worse things i have ever seen that poor little snake. I can't believe it survived. I dont think that its being calm in the video but in shock. I just cant believe that. Normally i am a calm person but you cant imagine the things i would do to the person(s) responsible for this. I am talking like busting stuff from the saw movie on them (but worse) I would probably be locked up for life after i was done but it would be worth it.

Wow! I lived in the south (not the deep south) and I never experienced anything like a mouth being sewn shut for a photo op...yuck. I have shot rattle snakes that have hung out in the homestead area~ didn't know how to move them and couldn't have my little kids being tagged.
But a hunt? Ummm, nooooo.....

I think you have to look at the area where this happened also. There are some parts of Lawrence that I wouldn't send my worst enemy into. I can almost guarantee that this was some sort of gang-related type "warning". Maybe the snake belonged to the person who was getting "warned", the article says that he was well taken care of before being frickin nailed to a telephone pole. It's so messed up that this animal got stuck in the middle of something that happened between two people.
I agree 100% that this is a sick and twisted thing to have happen to any animal and I would love to be able to personally drive the first nail into whoever it was that did this. Does anyone have any updates on whether or not they are going to be putting Trent up for adoption? Or how he's doing?

They said in one of the articles that he was on pain-killers so that might be why he seems so calm, he's all doped up seeing pretty colors and such
