Re: They hatched!!!!! (DUW!!!)
I'm trying not to convince myself to keep chickens in the backyard. I've been talking to some people online (online community) about keeping chickens in my backyard and I even have a plan for a small coop and run. You are not making things any easier.
The chicks are adorable. How do you sex the chicks, if that is even possible?

NICE chik-chicks! Wow, those banties are pretty small, huh? I doubt that the surrogate mama has any idea that those babies aren't hers
I have 2 roos now, and reallly want some ladies around to lay eggs everywhere. Mark and I gotta hit the auctions round here soon..!

Cute chics Kara!
Just curious..........Other than trying to keep a broody hen happy, why did you foster the eggs out?
I know Cochins are strongly inclined to broodiness, but the Silkies take it to a whole 'nother level! I think the ones we had a few years ago would have set on golf balls.

Dakota (the GL Cochin) was the first of my girls to go broody...the Silkies were laying regularly but wouldn't set yet, and I found broken eggs on a couple of different occasions...didn't want to get THAT habit started!
Now I have 3 broody Silkies, and fortunately 8 cuckoo Marans eggs just arrived today from a breeder, so I'm going to let the fluffy muppets set them instead of using an incubator. No sense in letting good broodies go unoccupied!
