Plan on switching to tub ,..question?
Hey everyone, I currently have my 580 g. ball in a 20 gall tank, and was looking to switch over to a tub setup. Now theres a few things i can probably bring over from the tank (hides, 2 Herpstats, 2 UTH's). But my question is how do i setup a tub??? I know it's easier to maintain temps and humidity, but am just curious as to how you guys set yours up. Should I just stick a UTH under the warmside and hook it up to a Herpstat, then put a hide on the cooler side, then put a water bowl in the middle(more near the UTH)?? And I know I got to monitor my temps, i have several digital thermometers and hygrometers soooo, all in all is this about right for a tub setup??
thanks guys,

You got it!!!!!
Your gonna wanna make some holes, more or less depending on the humidity.
Check out the tub pics in my images.

Have you seen these....

I get one to replace my tub and love it!
I hooked my herpstat (set at 91 it makes the hot side a perfect 94) to it put my hides, big metal water dish in there and filled it with newspaper. It is great, looks good and holds perfect temps and humidity.

Re: Plan on switching to tub ,..question?
The Reptile Basics cages are awesome... but for tubs this is what I do:

Those are both 64qt Sterelite tubs, @26x15x10. Bungee cords are used in conjunction with the side latches and I've kept corns and BPs in them with no trouble. I add the substrate, hides, water dish, Acurite and a few plants and voila!
Of course, corn snakes get a lot more holes soldered into their tub and lid than BPs, but IMO it's better to put in too many holes and cover some than keep having to take the snake out to add more holes over and over. Hole numbers are a very changing factor and just depend on the environment your tub will be in.
For example, I just moved from an apt. on the 3rd floor to one on the 1st. In the old place, humidity was hard to keep up, but in this new apt. I've had to add holes to my BP QT tubs to LOWER the humidity. Same area, same block even... go figure.
Ok, I've ranted enough.

So that already has the flexwatt installed for the belly heat? Looks and sounds like a pretty cool deal. Does that cage hold humidity well?

Can you show the bottom of it? or describe how it is? I currently have a UTH attached to the warm side..but I'd rather use something else.

As for the RBI cages, they are great and quite nice to look at as well. Supposedly they hold humidity perfectly, tho my own brief experience was contrary to that. Of course, I did a lot of things wrong in how I set it up the first time, so I'll let you know how things go the second time around once I fix my mistakes.
The bottom of which? The RBI cage or the tub? For the tub, I have a 10gallon sized ZooMed UTH taped underneath each end with foil tape and that does the trick for heat. I need two here because the winters are rather harsh and unpredictable, and even summer can have its colder days.
You can also use Flexwatt under free-standing tubs, and many people prefer it, but whatever you use you must have it on a thermostat of course.

What are your temps set at on each of your UTHS? I just got the same exact tub.
