Re: Is alot of handling good for a snake?

I think it depends on the snake itself.

I get off work at three and once I am home and clean, I usually sit down to my computer. The tank is arms length away from my chair so I open is. Usually as soon as I unlock it Nate pops his head out and slides right on out of the tank and over to my computer mouse, he stays there for a while then climbs on me, gets comfy and waits till all the emails are done and its TV time. Hes out with me most of the night. Then reluctent to return home. Once hes in there he tends to stare at me like I shouldn't have put him back. Its very cute.

    No stress. He eats wonderfully.

Re: Is alot of handling good for a snake?

I asked my reptile vet this exact question yesterday and he told me theres 3 kinds of people with snakes.

1)People that want a pet. These people want to handle their snakes all the time and treat it as a family pet. There is not much emphasis on the snakes natural habitat and thats ok because the snake has never had to thrive in its natural habitat. Of course it needs proper temp and humidity. These people handle their snake a lot and its ok depending on the temperament of the snake.

2)People that want to make money from the snakes. Breeders. They do not handle their snakes as much because they have mass amounts of snakes and dont have time to sit down and watch TV with all of them. This is alright too as long as the snake is getting its requirements.

3)People that own snakes to observe nature and do not wish to disturb the snakes natural habitat. They only handle their snake when its needed such as cleaning. This is alright as long as the snake is getting its requirements.

Either way, my vet said that as long as the snake tolerates handling, then you arent handling it too much. He owns a ball python and handles him for a couple hours every evening and says the snake is extremely docile. The snake will let you know if it doesnt want to be handled.
