Re: Have you taken your BP to work or anywhere else?
I take my oldest bp everywhere.... Not my job though, the customers would freak out. She 12-13 yrs old and 4 1/2 ft long... and everywhere I go people ask me if she venomous, and if shes gonna be as "big as an anaconda", and if she eats people, all kind of crazy questions, I smile and explain to them that if she was venomous most likely I would'nt be holding her and I would've been dead by now. LMAO!

Just doesn't seem like responsible pet ownership to me. You're obviously proud of your snake and that's fine - but I think, especially in a country that has highly venomous snakes in the wild, a head's up would have been appropriate.
If you're talking about me then you're mistaken. I warned my guys a day in advance that I was bringing in the snake, and I told them it was in the bag before I opened it. Their reaction after I warned them was up to them.
I personally don't agree with trying to scare someone with a snake, that is irresponsible.
Glad you guys like the pic, I've put a copy of it up for the guys and they all love it.

No, but I've got them delivered to work and then of course I take them home. Does that count?

Now I know I am probably going to get some flaming posts after putting this down in writing.
Just please remember this is just MY opinion.
Hi,
I wouldn't expect any flaming but there are reasons to care about scaring others aside from merely being a considerate human being.
It just gives extra ammunition to those who want to ban all of us from keeping them at all under any circumstances.
It sucks that we have to consider our hobby defensively to a certain extent but quite a lot of our fellow man just doesn't "get it" when it comes to the beauty of these animals.

When your BP's are sent to work are your co-workers curious?
What do they say when you show them?

No doubt you will, there are owners here who sit on both sides of the fence. Some will agree, some won't - such is life
Always do what you want, but show consideration to those around and be aware of your actions, and you'll be fine.

Very true, hence I prefer controlled areas in which to display Samson. We don't have any issues of bans etc here in South Africa (yet) as having pythons/boas as pets is not as huge(yet) as in the . Guess we are lucky about that, but it also means that my opinions and views here are not influenced by this fact, rather by consideration to others.
Hey Dr Del, you got a pic of that African House Snake? I'm not sure I've heard of it....
Shew - I need to find out how to quote multiple posts here....

Re: Have you taken your BP to work or anywhere else?
Thankfully most of our neighbors are actually curious and appreciate looking at the snakes when (not often) we bring them outside....
The young girl who lives across the street has Downs Syndrome and she absolutely adores the Burms. (she says the ball pythons are too little to hug...though she never hugs any of them..LOL)...she pets the Burms....MOST of the neighbors would only pet them AFTER Missy did (the girl with Downs)....I was approached by one of the parents of a 13 year old boy (13 at the time) and she thanked my partner and myself for showing her son that you need to RESPECT them...
her son, I found out later had fallen through an old deck when they lived in Az. and was bitten by snakes...I didn't get details but apparently he had bad dreams after that...
the summer he met us, he never got around to petting the snakes but he was always outside when I got home from work and he would always ask questions....eventually, he held some beardies and a water dragon.....now, I expect him at least twice a month to help with the Ball Python enclosures...he'll hold babies...still wont pet the burms....but WOW...makes everything worth it to see someone have such a real fear, come to terms, accept and overcome....
not sure what this adds to the post...LOL....but we had the snakes outside when all this happened....
