Went to the vet today :)

So I decided to take my ball to the vet today, because this morning I had found several mites floating in the water dish that she had been soaking in the past few days after her meal.
So this morning I disinfected the tank, put new substrate in, etc. And used Reptile Relief on her. I then decided to take her to the vet, not just for the mite issue but also to adress her excessive yawning issue when she comes out at night.
Well she got a thorough exam, no mites present, nothing whatsoever. The vet told me that she might of just contracted a few and they happened to show up in the water. Then she had checked the mouth thoroughly and said there is no signs whatsoeer of RI, so she might just be a yawner lol .She opted to do blood work to check the white blood cell count, but she said it wasnt really nescesary. But other than that she said she looks perfectly healty for a juvi. She finally got weighed .. 359

Just thought i'd share because of being worried up til now.

I'm glad to hear it sounds like your snake is healthy, but this sounds fishy to me..."a few"? From the little I know, you either have mites or you don't...a few means...you have mites.

I agree totally Cass. Prolific little buggers!
I'm glad you treated the enclosure~ Provent-A-Mite is really the very best product for this (just in case you didn't know and used a different product and will probably need to retreat in the near future!)

DSGB : I took Furio for a checkup at the vet and it was like 70 or something to have him probed and looked over and treated for mites. Hope this helps. Not trying to jack this thread either.

Re: Went to the vet today :)

Yeah i payed 80 bucks . A little pricey. But worth every penny to make sure my ball is healthy. But yeah when she said a few, I kind of figured she was trying to make it sound a little better and be more conforting. But she told me basically everything you guys have said as far as treating the enclosure and treating the snake.
I had bought that Reptile Relief spray when i had first gotten my ball, just in case of future mite problems. I know Provent a Mite is the way to go and its been proven effective and i will probably be getting some very soon. But for now i'm going to try this spray that i have out, and see how it fairs out.

Yeah I took my old snake to the vet and the office visit is $55 then whatever else you need on top. I think I paid like $70 something for that and baytril.

Re: Went to the vet today :)

When we take in animals we implicitly assume responsibility for any care they will need. Sadly, this sometimes becomes an explicit responsibility if and when a vet visit is needed.
I always have cash money socked away in the snakey first aid kit...

Re: Went to the vet today :)

Yeah I totally agree starmom. A few people were sort of ragging on me on here saying "ohh you don't need a checkup", or "just save your money". But honestly what if there was something serious going on that i didn't realize, and I had listened to what those couple people on here were telling me. It could possibly of gotten really bad months down the road, ya know. I mean i have no problem spending $80 to go get a thorough exam. I mean why not? Thats part of the responsibility when you take in an exotic pet, or any pet for that matter. I always go with the phrase "it's better to be safe then sorry".
