The bigger issue, in my opinion, is that he lied about what he shipped in an attempt to make UPS pay for his loss. That is stealing; if he would be dishonest and willing to commit fraud in that case, what's to say he wouldn't do it again under different circumstances?
I agree 100%, he dug his hole even deeper by doing so.
