They hold the smell in a lot better, and suffocate the animals.

That's fine for feeders, but for a pet, you should always get an open cage. That cage is similar to what I have my two girls in, and they barely fit comfortably. Always buy the biggest you can. If you're getting males, you'll definitely need a bigger cage. Once you start putting stuff in there, it shrinks VERY quickly.

And in all honesty, it's better to just spend a little more the first time instead of upgrading later. It saves money over time.

It's reasonably priced and is definitely big enough. You can also try Martin's cages. They have good sized cages for decent prices. You'll want to get the wire coated, though. Uncoated wire holds the smell of pee. It's horrible.
