    Question Larger snake shed Q's

Ok, for all of you with BPs over, say, 800g: Are your snakes still shedding in one piece or bit by bit?? I ask because my new het albino girl just gave me a shredded shed yesterday in a tub with humidity around 70-80% (but with dry substrate) since I noticed her in Blue.

I figured the pieces were based on her size, since I've never seen a large snake (zoo experience here) be it ball, boa or Burm, shed all in one piece. But I just wanted some expert opinions here on the matter.

I have three large 1000+g females and they are all still giving me 1 piece sheds. The spider shed this morning and one of the normals shed yesterday morning- both in one piece. I put moss in their hides instead of keeping the entire RBI cages bumped up and they shed with no problems at all.

My 2700gm just girl gave me a complete one piece shed. It seems to me that the humidity needs to be high as soon as they go opaque. I pack some damp moss on the hot side and try to keep it damp till they shed. Some even like to hang out in their water dishes, so I give them the jumbo dish when they are in shed.

If they do have a bad shed, get a towel wet with warm water and let them slid through the towel in your hands. You can usually work off any stuck pieces.

    Re: Larger snake shed Q's

Well hmm... The humidity never dropped below 70 in there the whole time, and since she's in QT I had to put her in a tub that doesn't allow me to give her large hides (she fits in them, but lifts them slightly and 'overflows').

I just cleaned her tub and soaked her as I did so to remove some stuck shed. Since her tub isn't big enough to put a soak box in, I used a spare tub on a heating pad. There's just one piece left on her neck and I'm not sure if she retained eye caps or not, but I'm thinking she may just be a 'bad shedder'.

Question: As she was being 'run through' the damp t-shirt (didn't have a hand towel) for shed removal I put it over her head a few times so she would back out to loosen anything there. After that happened, but not before, she was whistling as she breathed. Since it wasn't going on before that, did I just loosen something around her nostrils? I put her right back into her nice warm tub and I'm keeping an eye (and ear) on her now and she seems alright. I just don't want to think that not having her soak box in a warm place started anything...

All my snakes are shedding in one piece, my spider and normal both being around 1000 grams also shed in one piece. I don't bump humidity up until they go back clear. Like 1 -2 days before they shed completly. I have had good success doing it that way.

I have one girl that rarely sheds in one piece, regardless of the humidity.

all four of my boas (all seven feet of them) shed in one piece, no question about it.
