Nice post Justin... I feel like I have seen many het pieds that have that "harlequin" look... with dorsal keyholes, large blushing areas, and banded pattern... but I have also seen a bunch of "normals" with that look... but I'm sure it's possible that there are things going on with them that would be difficult to prove, especially if they are carring a single recessive trait... then you would only be breeding possible hets if you saved offspring to breed back... much like your pastel pied situation. I really think there are a ton of het animals out there that we don't know about that will never be proven. One of the reasons I like dinker projects so much... you just never know.
