    Thermostat problem and questions

Hey, I have a Helix, and I think one of my cats bit at the probe cord and the Helix displayed the EE-E4-E5 things and the check system light was on. I don't have any other thermostats so I taped up the cord and its working perfectly now (it was a really tiny rip in the cord, you could barely see to the wire), but I'm assuming I should go ahead and get a new probe cord, I just don't understand whats going to happen when I get it in the mail. Do I have to install it? I have no idea how to do anything with electronics so this worries me.

Also, People like Herpstats right? I don't have enough money to get the Herpstat Pros or Herpstat IIs, does anyone use or recommend the Herpstat Proportional Thermostat With Grounded AC Cords? I want to get a new thermostat to keep some of my other cages on, and I don't want to spend a whole lot of money.. I was going to go with a Ranco but I've heard some bad things so I'm just seeing what you guys think about the cheaper Herpstat.

As for repairing the helix goes, I hope you have some circuit board soldering experience!

As for the base herpstat. I have two pros and would trade my Helix in for a base herpstat anyday! With the helix anything goes wrong and it has to go in for service. That is all fine and good if you have a spare, but if you are the guy that only has what you need you are going to have cold snake on your hands. The herpstat probes are at least a plug in unit so you can swap them quickly!

Thanks gloryhound, so do you think the Herpstat I was asking about is a good idea? Its the second one on the page I linked.

I want to order the Herpstat or whatever I decide on TONIGHT, so when I get it I can set it up to the cages that are now using the Helix, then worry about fixing the Helix and using it for some of my other cages. The Helix is working perfectly right now, and I think it will be okay to use until I get a new thermostat, but I will want to fix it after its not being used to use on other cages.

Will I have to send the Helix in to get it fixed? I will not be able to do anything electrical myself, and I do not know anyone that is particularly good at doing that kind of stuff.

    Sorry for the late answer.

Yes the one you are looking at should be fine!
