MAJOR thermostat issues, any help appreciated

I have Herpstat that reads error four messages (supposedly because of a probe dysfunction) even after I JUST replaced the probe.

I also have a Ranco (brought in last week) to replace the Herpstat, that reads 83 degrees, that it should be at 91 with a 1 degree differential. My thermometers also read 83 degrees. It appears to be giving my heat pads (I tried this with both zoomed and the laminated flexwatt pads from the Bean Farm) full power, yet they are NOT warming up.

This Ranco worked fine until last night when temps started falling. This morning it was the same.

I am soooooo frustrated and upset. This is my THIRD thermostat that has failed!!!

I have called Ranco and the customer service guy wasn't in. ANy help or ideas would really be appreciated as this is putting my life on hold right now, and I really need to start getting to classes today.

the only thing I could imagine is that one of your heat pads somehow messed up your thermostat, and so now it won't work right at all. Do you have any reason to suspect either of the heat pads is faulty? Do they both heat up fine when plugged directly into the wall? Do you have both of them plugged into the thermostat, or only one at a time?

I suspect it is my circuit as I tried this with multiple brands of heat pads. All of these heat pads work just fine with Alife thermostat.

I think my circuit may be destroying my thermostats if it is having spikes or surges.

what circuit are you referring to?
Can you just use the Alife t-stat for today while waiting for better help?

Call the business you got the herpstat from and ask them what the error messages are.

If you have fluctuations with the electricity in your house it could cause everything to malfunction. generators can also do this to proportional t-stats.

i have a couple questions for you. What is your differential temp set at? Did you wire the control. Did you set it up to cool or heat, is it set to turn on at the setpoint or off at the set point. These were all the questions my local hvac supplier asked me today. I just picked up a johnson controls one today and was reading all of this in the book aswell i can only imagine that the ranco is about the same sorry they were out of the ranco ones or i would have bought one to try and help sort this out for you.

They are going to send me another free of charge. Mine is set on heating, 90 degrees with a differential of 1 degree. It would stay at 83, act like it needed more heat (which it did) but never get any hotter.

I think the circuit in that room is bad. I have now gone through 3 good thermostats, so i moved my snakes into another room. Sigh...
