ready to get flamed.
I am sorry BUT,
currently out of CO2.
I have a stubborn feeder that only takes small live mice. She is still a baby.
She struck at a hopper mouse, then let go of it after a few seconds. the baby mouse I thought was dead, then it started to come to... clearly wounded. I left it in there for about 30 minutes. the snake went back in its hide.
the mouse, clearly woonded was hobbling around the enclosure.
I recently purchased for $3 dollars a Reynalds zip lock bag vacume. I put the poor little mouse in the ziplock bag, and attached the sealer... (If you are not familiar with the sealer, it completely removes all air and creates a vacume seal within about 2 seconds.)
Well, I was surprised with the good results. within litteraly 5 seconds of sealing the bag, the mouse was motionless. (not breathing at all)
So, I must ask. would you consider this cruel? The mouse was dead faster then if the snake itself constricted it. The way I see it, it is kind of like a CO2 chamber, and a snake constriction at once.
I don't know, tell me what you think. I know that when I put my smaller mice in the CO2 chamber it takes a good minute or two to die. this took 5 seconds for the breathing to stop.

Re: ready to get flamed.
Sounds pretty humane to me. Rodents are discusting anyway.

I'm curious about this as well. I bought a $150 vacuum sealer when I got my first bp thinking I was going to feed f/t......never worked out so now I have a $150 newspaper weight. If it's that quick I would think it "may" be humane.

I guess it's okay.
they seem to exchange oxygen pretty fast, so they would go uncounscinence fast.

Re: ready to get flamed.
((Shrug)) sounds like suffocation to me.... but then again mice go through that when constricted

That's an awesome idea! Not inhumane at all!

Re: ready to get flamed.
If you ever need to euthanize a few individual mice, even pinks/fuzzies, get a bottle of canned air. It kills them very quickly(they may agonal breathe for a bit, but that's normal) and they do not suffer. I have euthanized my pet rats at home when I can't get them in to see the vet this way. They go very peacefully.

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

Re: ready to get flamed.
I'm not sure about how humane this way is, but it seems effective when one is in a pinch.
The part I like about C02 is where they fall asleep before they stop breathing. I know suffocating is not pleasant, and would prefer to fall asleep before I get smothered.
