    Pesticide help please!

So we had a neighbor caddy corner that "moved"... And kindly left enough fleas to make a small island.... we are fortunate enough to be across the street, but the neighbors on both sides of the empty house are dog and cat people, and their being over run with fleas. We couldn't figure out why their flea treatments weren't working... I guess they were, they were just being overwhelmed. After being over there, I'm pretty sure that's where Annie cam from, if anyone remembers the cali Kitten that was brought to us...
This is my question... We know an exterminator that is going to make us all a package deal, and basically treat the 1/2 of our street in and out. So, he said he can't do my rep. room cause reptiles absorb poison through their skin... so that means he can't do my bedroom because of the Cresties, OR the back yard because of the Torti... this guy is willing to work with us, but none of us know what is safe to use around all the scaled friends that dwell here!

So, have any of you found what is a safe treatment to use?

    Any feedback is appreciated!

Edit: Not sure where this thread went!

For your back yard and around your house. I would use Diatomaceous earth. It can be used as flea treatment on pets and in and outside your home. I have used it and it does work.

I would look up some info and follow directions. It can be found at lowes.
I have never had a single problem with my animals when I have used it.

Good luck though, fleas can really be a pain!!

    Great idea Kristy! Thanks

We have little house geckos and stuff living around the yard... and I just don't want to wipe out all the residents, if ya know what I mean! I wonder if you can make a spray out of it to use inside? *Knock on wood* We don't have a problem, yet... but after walking over there, I wouldn't be surprised if they migrate across the street... our legs we COVERED just in the front yard!

Thanks again for the great idea!

I will have to concur. DE is very safe to use around and on pets. It is only harmful to those with exoskeletons

Hahaha! I'm with ya girl! Two of the other ladies and I are planning a secret undercover flea bombing... We're gonna just run over and throw bombs into the house until we get the Fle-a-nator here!

I'll talk to them about the DE too.... no one is very comfortable going over there, because the bank hasn't stepped in to re claim it... and the Neighborhood association can't do anything because I guess it's still in limbo before going into foreclosure... But it's not a problem if we stand in the street and throw handfuls of DE at the house! Might haft to tape that one...

    Yeah the DE stuff awesome.
You can even rub it into your pets fur for treatment.
There is also a way to mix it up and use a spray. Be careful though, it can be somewhat harmful to your nose and eyes as you are spreading the dust, once the dust settles its totally safe.

My mother in law came up to visit a few years ago, and I guess she has like 15 cats. She brought fleas with her. I couldn't figure out why I was itching so bad on my legs. Then I noticed my son who was two at the time had one on his neck and flea bites all over his neck. I was furious. I treated everything, and within a week they were all gone. Fortunately I didn't have any furry pets to worry about at the time.
So it didn't take too long to get rid of them.

So glad to know that it works that well!

I feel a ton better... I've been stressing over what to use since we all discovered the Flea Farm!
