Question How old is my BP?

So I finally got a weight on Orion.
He's 153 grams & aprox 17" in length. So now my next question is how old? I have had Orion for about 2 months now. I have went through one shed. He's been eating 2 fuzzies every 4 days without any problems. The only weird thing is that I have a huge water dish for him. Last night I found him under the water dish all weird like. I felt sorry for the lil bugger and he was a bit jumpy but then setteled right in when i held him for a bit. I see he might be starting another shed. Tummy is pink again all over and his color is fading and getting that wrinkley look and the eyes are getting a lil foggy. So this time I am ready to get thet humid right.

Thanks all sorry for "talking" your ears off

If he was under the water dish, you may have to change your hides to fit him more snuggly. BP's like to feel their hide all around them, and he is no exception. I found that the clay pot water dishes work very well for that.

As to his age.... I'd say he is maybe 4-5 months old. I'm just assuming you've had him for 2 months, and they kept him for 2-3 months before they sold him. I'm not very good with the age vs. weight of young ones, but just an idea.

It's hard for me to guess at age since I have a light weight and she's 9 months old!! My only thought might be to up the prey size. Since she is taking 2 fuzzies every 4 days, she might need a weanling every 5 days. What do you think?

I dont know I dont want to over feed and or hurt him. Some of the fuzzies are pretty good size and then some are a lil smaller.
On average the size of them are about 75% to 80% of the size of his biggest part of him.(his belly)
Huh it must be true the owner does look like his pet

Well any way the whole hide thing.. He has a very snug hide and then he has a larger one if he wants. I even have a "half hide" for him I will need to take pics of the way i have it set up now.
I had changed some things and took some out and added some stuff back in. The only thing I can think of is he loves to try to push his way through stuff. When I hold him he loves to try to shove his head in between my arm and body. So I think he did that to get under there but then could not get back out.

    Hmmm

Yeah, really, every four days and all he's doing is digesting; this is very hard on a snake!! 75-80% of girth means the prey size can be upped and given that he is eating multiple prey every 4 days is the absolute indicator.

Re: How old is my BP?

Just feed him 1 medium adult mouse every 5-7 days. That's what all of my 07 babies are on and they are growing just fine. Believe me, they can handle it. I even have an 07 Spider female who has some congenital defects in her neck, making it shorter than normal, and she still strikes, coils, kills, swallows and digests her adult mouse perfectly fine. She's still under 200g.

The fuzzy mice are generally left for corn snakes and for tiny baby ball pythons who have just hatched and need a smaller meal than a hopper or who need to be assist fed. They really don't offer much in the way of nutrition and your snake is using more energy eating and digesting those two small mice than he is getting from them. Most of my babies that hatched last season(18) were started on live hopper mice or larger and did great. Two were under 50g in weight, and didn't eat for 7 weeks so they got assist fed for a bit until they got the point

Try a bigger mouse every 5-7 days. He'll be fine.

Well you bring up a good point Becky
I thought he was talking about rats and you seem to think he's talking about mice!!
Wonder what he's feeding his snake

Likely fuzzy mice since he's feeding 2 of them every 4 days. Fuzzy rats(or rat pups are they are known) are quite a bit bigger and the snake would have quite the noticeable bulge after eating.

Yeah maybe, though I get my rats frozen and there are fuzzy rats AND rat pups. The little fuzzy's have nearly no hair and the pups have a covering of fine hair. Fuzzy's weigh about 15-19g and pups weigh about 27g. This is why I thought the owner could bump to the next size (I mistakenly said to bump to a weaner and ought to have said bump to a pup!)

    Fuzzy mice.
They are almost the size of him as far as around.
    Wouldn't 2 of them equal 1 "hopper" ??
